The amount of mobile working has increased enormously in the wake of the pandemic. However, this also significantly increased the attack opportunities for cybercriminals. Although mobile working will continue to play a significant role in our everyday work in the future, too few technical and organizational security measures are still being taken to adequately secure the attack surface when working mobile.
This was the result of a representative survey of 1.000 companies and businesses carried out by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) in 2020.
IT security in mobile working
The survey also found that over 50% of companies invest less than 10% of IT spending on cyber security. However, the BSI recommends investing up to 20% of the IT budget in security. The smaller a company, the more serious the consequences of cyber attacks can be. For micro and small companies with fewer than 50 employees, one in four cyberattacks has consequences that threaten their existence.
However, IT security is often not sufficiently taken into account. When working mobile, it is important to maintain a balance between user-friendly access to company data and IT protection. Stable and risk-based IT security management, employee training and well-thought-out emergency concepts are required.
