The “Digital Now” investment funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy is aimed at small and medium-sized companies. Up to 100.000 euros in funding can be applied for for hardware and software as well as for the qualification of employees. The starting signal for applications for the new funding program is September 7th.
With the funding program, the BMWI aims to support SMEs and trades in particular in fully exploiting the potential of digitalization and making themselves competitive in the long term.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR THE “DIGITAL NOW” FUNDING?
The BMWI offers the new investment support for small and medium-sized companies, including crafts and the freelance professions. All companies with between three and 499 employees that have a permanent establishment or branch in Germany are eligible for funding.
WHAT IS FUNDED?
Funding can be applied for as part of two modules. Either both or just one module can be used:
Module 1: Investment in digital technologies, i.e. the purchase of new hardware and software: These investments are intended to promote the internal and external networking of companies. This includes, for example, data-driven business models, artificial intelligence, cloud applications, big data, use of hardware as well as IT security and data protection.
Module 2: Investing in the qualification of employees: This module aims to build the necessary knowledge for sustainable digitalization directly within the company itself. For example, further training measures on the topics of digital strategy, digital transformations, digital technologies, IT security and data protection are eligible.
HOW MUCH IS FUNDED?
The amount of funding depends on the size of the company:
- up to 50 employees: 50% funding
- up to 250 employees: 45% funding
- up to 499 employees: 40% funding
Under certain conditions, the funding can increase to up to 70%.
The maximum grant for sole proprietorships is 50.000 euros. For investments by companies in value chains and networks, this increases to 100.000 euros per applicant.
HOW AND WHEN CAN THE “DIGITAL NOW” FUNDING BE APPLIED?
The funding application can be applied for online using an electronic application form from September 7th. The prerequisite for submitting an application is a digitization plan in which the company describes its digitization project in more detail.
